WHERE ARE MY CELLS?
Welcome to "Where Are My Cells?", where the passion of science meets arts!
"Where Are My Cells?" were the lyrics to a spontaneous song, written by the founder and cell biologist, Professor Ivan Poon. It was a song of despair, as one of his long-haul experiments during his grad-student years, did not yield any cells. Many years later, Ivan's passion for science remains strong, and he grew eager to share this passion with people from all walks of life. Little did people know that Ivan is in fact an accomplished visual artist, and along came a year of lockdowns, the idea of "Where Are My Cells?" was born. "Where Are My Cells?" is a suite of artworks and fun products based on the different types of cells in the human body. Each piece, designed and drawn by Ivan, combines his extensive experience in cell biology research and his creative ways.
Ivan was trained as a biochemist and cell biologist at Monash University and Australian National University in Australia, and at University of Virginia in the US. He currently leads a research laboratory in Australia studying how dying (apoptotic) cells undergo fragmentation. Ivan founded the concept and collection of "Where Are My Cells?" artworks with his wife, Dr J. Chow, who was also a scientist.
